Club officials at Spartak Moskva have announced that eight players from “the People’s Team” have been called up to various national squads.

Alex will be traveling to Qatar for the Brazil National Team’s friendly match against England in Doha, which will then be followed by another friendly in Muscat against Oman on 17 November.

Goalkeeper Sergei Pesyakov, defenders Sergei Parshivlyuk and Evgeny Makeev, midfielder Igor Gorbatenko, and striker Pavel Yakovlev will all be playing for Russia’s U-21 National Team against Moldova in Tiraspol on 14 November.

Zhano Ananidze, who has of late garnered much interest abroad, has been called up for the Georgia U-21 National team for two important qualification matches against the Republic of Ireland and Switzerland.

Croatian attacking midfielder Filip Ozobić will play with his country’s U-21 National Team when they face Cyprus and Slovakia during the upcoming international week. The 18-year-old prospect is part of Spartak Moskva’s youth squad, having returned to Moskva this year after being on loan to Zader of the Croatian HNL.

The call-ups for Alex, Yakovlev, Parshivlyuk, and Ananidze, while coming as no surprise, will be the most disconcerting for manager Valery Karpin. After the international week, Spartak will have play their two remaining, crucial matches against CSKA Moskva and Zenit St. Petersburg and surely needs all of his players healthy and in good form to keep their championship hopes alive.

In addition to the eight players Spartak officials announced, it was later announced that Quincy Owusu-Abeyie also received a call up for Ghana’s National Team. While he has only recently returned to Moskva, the 23-year-old attacker has performed quite well in the 5 substitute appearances he has made. Ghana will be playing Mali on 14 November.
