Pavlyuchenko Update: Tottenhan Now Holding Out For €12 Million

This is going to be a big day for Roman Pavlyuchenko. It seems clear that Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is trying to move him despite last week’s comments that he would do otherwise. The strongest suitor has been Spartak Moskva, with Italian Serie A side AS Roma persistently lurking. This weekend Zenit appeared to be the front-runner, though today’s reports have Spartak the main suitor, though Spurs’ evaluation has gone up. Whereas this weekend’s magic number was €10.5 million, at least one report now holds Redknapp waiting for a club to hit €12 million, perhaps an indication of the demand for Pavlyuchenko’s services.

That demand was mitigated by Zenit acquiring Mateja Kezman, bowing out of the race for Pavlyuchenko. With Pavlyuchenko playing part in Spurs’ final, match-winning goal this weekend against Birmingham, it is also possible Redknapp has increased the price as a means of maintaining Pavlyuchenko’s services – setting a number at which he would certainly sell but also knows suitors are unlikely to hit.

Despite their disappointing performance this weekend in which flaws in the attack they have without Vladimir Bystrov were exposed, Spartak Moskva seems unwilling to meet Spurs’ evaluation. Likewise, Roma seems unwilling to spend that much, as the cash-conscious team had not been willing to pay the lower, €10.5 million figure.
